H\u00e1, em primeiro lugar, uma <i>vis\u00e3o retrospectiva<\/i>. O sacramento da Ceia do Senhor \u00e9 uma comemora\u00e7\u00e3o, uma celebra\u00e7\u00e3o de um evento no passado. \u00c9 um aux\u00edlio para que nos lembremos do ponto crucial e redentor da hist\u00f3ria, o ponto no qual o Filho de Deus morreu pelo seu povo. N\u00e3o \u00e9 uma reencena\u00e7\u00e3o do sacrif\u00edcio, mas \u00e9 um aux\u00edlio visual dram\u00e1tico para a f\u00e9, enquanto se olha para tr\u00e1s ao ponto da hist\u00f3ria em que o cordeiro sacrificial morreu por n\u00f3s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Em segundo lugar, h\u00e1 uma <i>vis\u00e3o prospectiva<\/i> no sacramento. Esse olhar \u00e9 direcionado para frente com tanta certeza quanto se olha para tr\u00e1s. A vis\u00e3o prospectiva antecipa o retorno do Senhor. Ela pertence ao projeto da Ceia do Senhor, que \u00e9 um arranjo tempor\u00e1rio \u201cat\u00e9 que ele venha\u201d. A noiva de Cristo n\u00e3o se lembra da morte do seu noivo como uma vi\u00fava, mas como algu\u00e9m que anseia pelo dia em que o noivo voltar\u00e1 para lev\u00e1-la para casa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No entanto, em terceiro lugar, deve haver uma <i>vis\u00e3o introspectiva<\/i> no sacramento. Somos chamados a olhar para dentro de n\u00f3s mesmos, a fim de nos prepararmos para a Mesa do Senhor, examinando-nos. N\u00e3o somos chamados para sermos auto-obsessivos, mas sim autoconscientes, e para nos colocarmos sob o escrut\u00ednio da Palavra de Deus, mesmo quando a Palavra de Deus nos convida a vir para a festa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Em 1 Cor\u00edntios 11:27-28, o autoexame \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio se quisermos evitar ser \u201cr\u00e9u do corpo e do sangue do Senhor\u201d. O ser \u201cr\u00e9u\u201d de que Paulo fala est\u00e1 ligado ao comer do p\u00e3o ou beber do c\u00e1lice \u201cindignamente\u201d. O autoexame \u00e9 motivado por um desejo de glorificar a Deus em nossa participa\u00e7\u00e3o no sacramento, para que possamos comer e beber &#8220;dignamente&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A \u201cdignidade\u201d \u00e0 qual Paulo se refere \u00e9 adverbial, n\u00e3o adjetiva. Ou seja, n\u00e3o descreve as <i>pessoas<\/i> que participam, mas a <i>maneira<\/i> como elas fazem isso. Somos todos, cada um de n\u00f3s, indignos do amor que nos convida \u00e0 Mesa do Senhor. N\u00f3s n\u00e3o nos examinamos para ver se somos dignos ou se fizemos alguma coisa que nos torna mais dignos, desde a \u00faltima vez que participamos do sacramento.
