Ele representa o relacionamento existente entre Cristo e sua Santa Igreja. No artigo a seguir, R. C. Sproul desenvolve o tema:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hoje, \u00e9 claro, muitos jovens est\u00e3o n\u00e3o apenas dizendo \u201cn\u00e3o\u201d para a tradicional cerim\u00f4nia de casamento, como tamb\u00e9m est\u00e3o rejeitando o pr\u00f3prio conceito do casamento. Mais e mais jovens est\u00e3o vindo de lares rachados e, como resultado, t\u00eam medo e desconfian\u00e7a quanto ao valor do casamento. Ent\u00e3o vemos casais vivendo juntos ao inv\u00e9s de se casarem, por medo de ser grande demais o custo de tal comprometimento. Eles temem que isso os torne vulner\u00e1veis demais. Isso significa que uma das mais est\u00e1veis e, costum\u00e1vamos pensar, mais permanentes tradi\u00e7\u00f5es de nossa cultura est\u00e1 sendo desafiada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Uma das coisas que eu mais gosto na cerim\u00f4nia tradicional de casamento \u00e9 que ela inclui uma explica\u00e7\u00e3o para o motivo da exist\u00eancia de algo como o casamento. Nos \u00e9 dito, naquela cerim\u00f4nia, que o casamento \u00e9 ordenado e institu\u00eddo por Deus \u2014 isso significa dizer que o casamento n\u00e3o simplesmente brotou arbitrariamente de conven\u00e7\u00f5es sociais ou tabus humanos.
