Sim. Isto n\u00e3o somente \u00e9 poss\u00edvel, mas tem acontecido. N\u00e3o digo isto para desestimular o encanto, e sim para estimular a esperan\u00e7a. N\u00e3o suponha que as \u00e9pocas de hostilidade ou controv\u00e9rsia ser\u00e3o tempos de decl\u00ednio, com pouco poder e crescimento. Podem ser \u00e9pocas de crescimento explosivo e grande b\u00ean\u00e7\u00e3o espiritual.<\/p>\n<p>Como sabemos isto? Considere a maneira como Lucas relata o estado da igreja em Atos dos Ap\u00f3stolos. Quando Paulo finalmente chega a Roma, quase ao final de sua vida, ele convida \u201cos principais dos judeus\u201d a virem e ouvirem seu evangelho. O que esses l\u00edderes disseram a respeito da \u201cseita\u201d dos crist\u00e3os \u00e9 bastante significativo. Eles disseram: \u201c\u00c9 corrente a respeito desta seita que, por toda parte, \u00e9 ela impugnada\u201d (At 28.22).<\/p>\n<p>Isto n\u00e3o era uma surpresa para os disc\u00edpulos que conheciam as palavras de Jesus: \u201cSereis odiados de todas as na\u00e7\u00f5es, por causa do meu nome\u201d (Mt 24.9); e: \u201cSe chamaram Belzebu ao dono da casa, quanto mais aos seus dom\u00e9sticos?\u201d (Mt 10.25.)<\/p>\n<p>A igreja primitiva era uma igreja preparada para o combate. Sim, houve \u00e9pocas de tranq\u00fcilidade (At 9.31), mas isso foi uma exce\u00e7\u00e3o. Na maior parte do tempo, houve difama\u00e7\u00f5es e mal-entendidos, sem mencionar disputas internas sobre \u00e9tica e doutrina. Quase todas as ep\u00edstolas de Paulo refletem controv\u00e9rsia na igreja, bem como as afli\u00e7\u00f5es que vinham de fora. O principal ensino destes fatos n\u00e3o \u00e9 que tal situa\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 desej\u00e1vel, e sim que ela n\u00e3o impede o poder e o crescimento da igreja.<\/p>\n<p>Parece que este era o ponto de vista de Lucas, pois, embora tenha mostrado o cristianismo como uma seita impugnada, ele tamb\u00e9m retratou o seu crescimento permanente em todo o Livro de Atos \u2014 \u201cEnquanto isso, acrescentava-lhes o Senhor, dia a dia, os que iam sendo salvos. (At 2.47); \u201cNaqueles dias, multiplicando-se o n\u00famero dos disc\u00edpulos&#8230;\u201d (At 6.1); \u201cCrescia a palavra de Deus, e, em Jerusal\u00e9m, se multiplicava o n\u00famero dos disc\u00edpulos\u201d (At 6.7); \u201cA m\u00e3o do Senhor estava com eles, e muitos, crendo, se converteram ao Senhor\u201d (At 11.21); \u201cA palavra do Senhor crescia e se multiplicava\u201d (At 12.24); \u201cAs igrejas&#8230; aumentavam em n\u00famero\u201d (At 16.5); \u201cDando ensejo a que todos os habitantes da \u00c1sia ouvissem a palavra do Senhor\u201d (At 19.10); \u201cA palavra do Senhor crescia e prevalecia poderosamente\u201d (At 19.20).<\/p>\n<p>Por conseguinte, n\u00e3o devemos pensar que controv\u00e9rsia e conflito impedem a igreja de experimentar o poder do Esp\u00edrito Santo e grande crescimento. Somos ensinados em Romanos 12.18: \u201cSe poss\u00edvel, quanto depender de v\u00f3s, tende paz com todos os homens\u201d. Mas n\u00e3o somos ensinados a sacrificar a verdade em favor da paz. Paulo disse: \u201cAinda que n\u00f3s ou mesmo um anjo vindo do c\u00e9u vos pregue evangelho que v\u00e1 al\u00e9m do que vos temos pregado, seja an\u00e1tema\u201d (Gl 1.8).<\/p>\n<p>E, se houvesse tanto conflito e hostilidade, que os pregadores do evangelho fossem aprisionados, esse momento de not\u00edcias m\u00e1s seria uma ocasi\u00e3o de triunfo do evangelho. Por qu\u00ea? Paulo disse: \u201cEstou sofrendo at\u00e9 algemas, como malfeitor; contudo, a palavra de Deus n\u00e3o est\u00e1 algemada\u201d (2 Tm 2.9). De fato, se Deus e a verdade forem muito amados, talvez aconte\u00e7a que nos mostremos dispostos a assumir posturas que incorram em difama\u00e7\u00e3o e hostilidade e o Esp\u00edrito Santo nos mova mais poderosamente do que em tempos de paz e popularidade.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0s vezes, os crentes t\u00eam o favor da sociedade; e, \u00e0s vezes, somos impugnados pela sociedade. Em ambos os casos, Deus pode fazer (e o faz com freq\u00fc\u00eancia) derramar seu poder para um testemunho eficaz. Tanto a paz como a difama\u00e7\u00e3o podem ser ocasi\u00e3o de b\u00ean\u00e7\u00e3o. Por isso, n\u00e3o aceitemos a suposi\u00e7\u00e3o de que tempos de menosprezo social tem de ser tempos de fraqueza e esterilidade para o evangelho. Podem ser sinais de fidelidade e ocasi\u00f5es de grande colheita.
