Nenhuma \u00e1rvore ou arbusto \u00e0 vista, e o sol derramando sem remorso um dil\u00favio de fogo; n\u00e3o havia sinal de sombra, exceto por uma enorme cruz de pedra que guarnecia o cume do Hindhead. Aquela cruz foi elaboradamente adornada com inscri\u00e7\u00f5es em latim, e era precisa e cl\u00e1ssica no formato; mas sua sombra era estreita demais para fornecer cobertura perfeita mesmo para um, menos ainda para dois. A sombra era mais refrescante, mas n\u00e3o havia o bastante, e um viajante poderia, queimado como estava, ficar em p\u00e9 ou deitado sob os raios ardentes do sol, pois n\u00e3o havia lugar para ele na sombra fresca. Assim deve ser com o evangelho de Jesus, como demonstrado por alguns minist\u00e9rios. Jesus \u00e9 anunciado eloquentemente, mas a liberdade de Sua gra\u00e7a e o poder abundante de Seu sangue n\u00e3o s\u00e3o aplicados; ou pode ser que a Teologia Sistem\u00e1tica seja o \u00eddolo do pregador, e Cristo \u00e9 reduzido \u00e0 cren\u00e7a; o rigor da doutrina \u00e9 alimentado, mas o Cristo que \u00e9 anunciado n\u00e3o possui nenhuma amplitude de amor, nenhuma amplid\u00e3o de sombra para o repouso de pecadores cansados. Ao mesmo tempo, muitos removem o car\u00e1ter s\u00f3lido da expia\u00e7\u00e3o completamente e, enquanto objeta abrang\u00eancia, nos d\u00e1 ao inv\u00e9s de uma cruz de granito, uma mera neblina sem nenhuma sombra.  A verdadeira ideia escritural da expia\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9: \u201cA sombra de uma grande rocha numa terra cansada.\u201d O lema do Evangelho de Jesus \u00e9: \u201cE ainda h\u00e1 lugar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ah, a bendita sombra da cruz de Cristo! Todos os rebanhos do Senhor deitam-se sob ela, e descansam em paz; milh\u00f5es de almas s\u00e3o por ela libertas do calor da vingan\u00e7a, e in\u00fameras mais nela encontrar\u00e3o um abrigo da ira vindoura. Querido leitor, voc\u00ea est\u00e1 na sombra do Crucificado? Ele se p\u00f5e entre Deus e sua alma para desviar de voc\u00ea os raios ardentes da justi\u00e7a, que os seus pecados t\u00e3o ricamente merecem, suportando-os Ele mesmo? Se voc\u00ea perecer pela necessidade de abrigo n\u00e3o ser\u00e1 porque faltou lugar para voc\u00ea em Cristo, pois nenhum pecador jamais foi lan\u00e7ado fora por esta raz\u00e3o, e nenhum jamais ser\u00e1. Se voc\u00ea morrer no calor feroz da ira divina, voc\u00ea s\u00f3 poder\u00e1 culpar a si mesmo, pois h\u00e1 a sombra da grande propicia\u00e7\u00e3o, fria e refrescante, e a todo momento ela \u00e9 acess\u00edvel por simples f\u00e9. Se voc\u00ea se recusa a crer, e se considera indigno da salva\u00e7\u00e3o, seu sangue jazer\u00e1 em sua pr\u00f3pria porta. Venha, agora, para o abrigo certo e bendito, a fim de que a insola\u00e7\u00e3o do desespero n\u00e3o o murche. Uma vez sob a sombra de Jesus, o sol n\u00e3o te afetar\u00e1 durante o dia, nem a lua durante a noite; tu habitar\u00e1s sob a sombra do Todo-Poderoso. \u201cO Senhor \u00e9 quem te guarda; o Senhor \u00e9 a tua sombra \u00e0 tua direita\u201d (Sl. 121:5).
