As igrejas planejam seus cultos com o objetivo de agradar as pessoas que n\u00e3o frequentam qualquer igreja. Artistas crist\u00e3s imitam todas os estilos ef\u00eameros do mundo tanto na m\u00fasica como no entretenimento. Os pregadores est\u00e3o horrorizados com o fato de que a ofensa do evangelho pode colocar algu\u00e9m contra eles, por isso omitem deliberadamente partes da mensagem que o mundo n\u00e3o aprovara.<\/p>\n<p>O evangelicalismo parece ter sido sequestrado por legi\u00f5es de porta-vozes carnais que est\u00e3o fazendo o melhor que podem para convencer o mundo de que a igreja pode ser t\u00e3o inclusiva, pluralista, mente aberta como as pessoas mais mundanas.<\/p>\n<p>A busca pela aprova\u00e7\u00e3o do mundo \u00e9 o mesmo que prostitui\u00e7\u00e3o espiritual. De fato, essa foi exatamente a figura que o ap\u00f3stolo Tiago usou para descrev\u00ea-la. Ele escreveu: &#8220;Infi\u00e9is, n\u00e3o compreendeis que a amizade do mundo \u00e9 inimiga de Deus? Aquele, pois, que quiser ser amigo do mundo constitui-se inimigo de Deus&#8221; (Tiago 4.4).<\/p>\n<p>Sempre existiu e existir\u00e1 uma incompatibilidade fundamental entre a igreja e o mundo. O pensamento crist\u00e3o n\u00e3o se harmoniza com todas as filosofias do mundo. A f\u00e9 genu\u00edna em Cristo envolve uma nega\u00e7\u00e3o de todos os valores mundanos. A verdade b\u00edblica contradiz todas as religi\u00f5es do mundo. O cristianismo \u00e9, por essa raz\u00e3o, oposto a quase tudo que este mundo admira.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus disse aos seus disc\u00edpulos: &#8220;Se o mundo vos odeia, sabei que, primeiro do que a v\u00f3s outros, me odiou a mim. Se v\u00f3s f\u00f4sseis do mundo, o mundo amaria o que era seu; como, todavia, n\u00e3o sois do mundo, pelo contr\u00e1rio, dele vos escolhi, por isso, o mundo vos odeia&#8221; (Jo\u00e3o 15.18-19).<\/p>\n<p>Observe que nosso Senhor considerou uma realidade absoluta o fato de que o mundo desprezaria a igreja. Em vez de ensinar seus disc\u00edpulos a tentarem conquistar o favor do mundo, por reformularem o evangelho, para que este se adequasse \u00e0s prefer\u00eancias do mundo, Jesus advertiu expressamente que a busca pelos louvores do mundo \u00e9 uma caracter\u00edstica dos falsos profetas: &#8220;Ai de v\u00f3s, quando todos vos louvarem! Porque assim procederam seus pais com os falsos profetas&#8221; (Lucas 6.26).<\/p>\n<p>Depois, ele esclareceu: &#8220;O mundo&#8230; me odeia, porque eu dou testemunho a seu respeito de que as suas obras s\u00e3o m\u00e1s&#8221; (Jo\u00e3o 7.7). Em outras palavras, o desprezo do mundo para com o cristianismo origina-se de motivos morais, e n\u00e3o intelectuais: &#8220;O julgamento \u00e9 este: que a luz veio ao mundo, e os homens amaram mais as trevas do que a luz; porque as suas obras eram m\u00e1s. Pois todo aquele que pratica o mal aborrece a luz e n\u00e3o se chega para a luz, a fim de n\u00e3o serem arguidas as suas obras&#8221; (Jo\u00e3o 3.19-20). Essa \u00e9 a raz\u00e3o por que, n\u00e3o importando qu\u00e3o profundamente diversa seja a opini\u00e3o do mundo, a verdade crist\u00e3 nunca ser\u00e1 popular no mundo.<\/p>\n<p>No entanto, em quase toda a era da hist\u00f3ria da igreja, tem havido pessoas na igreja que est\u00e3o convencidas de que a melhor maneira de ganhar o mundo para Cristo \u00e9 satisfazer os gostos do mundo. Essa maneira de agir sempre trouxe detrimento \u00e0 mensagem do evangelho. As \u00fanicas \u00e9pocas em que a igreja causou impacto significante no mundo foram aquelas em que o povo de Deus permaneceu firme, recusou comprometer-se e proclamou com ousadia a verdade, apesar da hostilidade do mundo. Quando os crist\u00e3os se esquivaram da tarefa de confrontar as ilus\u00f5es mundanas populares com as verdades b\u00edblicas impopulares, a igreja perdeu a sua influ\u00eancia e mesclou-se impotentemente com o mundo. Tanto a Escritura como a hist\u00f3ria atestam esse fato.<\/p>\n<p>E a mensagem crist\u00e3\u00a0n\u00e3o pode\u00a0simplesmente ser mudada para se conformar com as vicissitudes das opini\u00f5es do mundo. A verdade b\u00edblica \u00e9 fixa e constante, n\u00e3o sujeita a mudan\u00e7a ou adapta\u00e7\u00e3o. Por outro lado, a opini\u00e3o do mundo est\u00e1 em fluxo constante. As tend\u00eancias e as filosofias que dominam o mundo mudam radicalmente, com regularidade, de gera\u00e7\u00e3o a gera\u00e7\u00e3o. A \u00fanica coisa que permanece constante \u00e9 o \u00f3dio do mundo para com Cristo e o seu evangelho.<\/p>\n<p>Com toda a probabilidade, o mundo n\u00e3o adotar\u00e1 por muito tempo qualquer ideologia em voga neste ano. Se o padr\u00e3o da hist\u00f3ria serve como indicador, quando os nossos netos se tornarem adultos, a opini\u00e3o do mundo ser\u00e1 dominada por um sistema completamente novo de cren\u00e7a e todo um novo sistema de valores. A gera\u00e7\u00e3o de amanh\u00e3 renunciar\u00e1 todas as modas e filosofias passageiras de hoje.
